Why Give?

 Why give? That is a question the recent action of our donors best helps us to answer. Naming plaques mounted on freshly painted walls are apparent in the newly renovated library / fine arts wing at Austin. These etched names join a long list of names dedicating our memorial scholarship funds. We are honored to have donors so publicly proclaim their support in such a way. Slowly we have learned that what lies behind each of these public expressions is an endorsement of the work that goes on here. That work includes the teacher’s craft of honing academic skills, disciplining work habits and creating serious students. As important is the coach’s challenge to excel and the councilor’s advice to reflect and pray. Behind each name lies a story about Austin. It may be one of personal development. It could be one about home, friendship or discovery.

The phenomenon results from our asking members of the Austin community for their financial support and their overwhelming response. There are actually thousands of names. Those that do not appear on the walls or on a fund appear in the pages of our Report of Giving. Each is its own form of recognition of Austin’s important place in an individual’s life.

We are deeply aware of the sense of trust placed in us with each gift. And with that the obligation to make Austin Prep the best school it can be. Tuition covers the cost of day-to-day operations, but your philanthropy gives us the strength to grow.
