Since 1999 Austin has been hosting students from Colegio Manuel Belgrano in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 3 weeks. An English-speaking teacher, Mrs. María Inés Cabantous de Sacerdote, accompanies the Argentinean students. The students are 15-17 years old with good to excellent English skills.

Travel Insurance: Each student has additional insurance in case of need while in the USA.

Finances: Each student has their own personal spending money. Mrs. Cabantous-Sacerdote administers program costs. Host parents are not responsible for personal/program costs.

Their school, the Colegio Manuel Belgrano, is located in Belgrano, an upper middle class neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The school, like Austin, is a private, coeducational, college preparatory Catholic school.

Their city, Buenos Aires, is a large cosmopolitan capital city, reflecting in its people and their language the predominant influences of immigrants from Italy and Spain, as well as those from the United Kingdom, Slavic Scandinavian countries, etc.

The Austin Program (February – March)
Host and guest students arrive at school and leave together at the end of the school day.
Students are integrated into Austin’s daily routine while also having special English classes and do field trips during the school day.

They form part of the Austin families who host them and share the family life of each host.

The Argentine Program (June)
Since 1999, Austin students have traveled to Buenos Aires and stayed at the home of students who were their guests in the USA. Ms. Linda Sherry accompanies the Austin students and coordinates the programmed activities during their stay in Buenos Aires.

Travel Insurance is purchased by the Austin students from the travel agent in the USA.

Finances: $1,400 estimated flight costs
$600 estimated program costs
$100 health/ travel insurance
The program costs cover excursions and mini courses in Spanish at the Colegio Belgrano.

Personal Finances Personal spending money students may wish to use for their own needs.

Program:
Students are integrated within the Belgrano school community, visit English classes, have their own Spanish language classes, etc. The Austin students share in the life of their host families, who live near the school.

Cultural Activities include: Bus tours of selected neighborhoods. Small group tours using the metro. A Gaucho (cowboy) day at a ranch. Visit to La Plata, the Provincial capital. Other excursions and cultural activities, such as visiting Quitilipi, Chaco, a neighboring province.
