NOTE: Students are expected to be dressed for the business of learning. Consequently, it is mandatory that all students arrive at school in full dress code; that their uniforms be neat, clean, in good condition, and appropriately sized. Any student deemed by a faculty or staff member to be out of dress code will receive a dress code violation, a copy of which will be given to the Assistant Headmaster for Student Life.
Parents and students are urged to label each item of clothing, especially sweaters, fleeces and all outerwear with the student’s name for easy identification if lost.
The dress code will be strictly enforced according to the following guidelines:
A. Boys:
1. Shirts: Polo shirts from the J.B. Edward Uniform Company only (black, green, white with the Austin logo).
2. Undershirts: Undershirt must be plain white. Boys’ undershirts must be tucked in at all times.
3. Pants: Tan Khaki or corduroy only with no designs or embroidery work; cargo pants, or pants that are torn or have frayed edges are not allowed. Pants must be worn on the hips.
4. Shoes: Solid color black or brown dress shoes or boat shoes (no sneakers). No shoes with no/low backs, open-toed shoes, flip flops, sandals, moccasins, crocs, or any shoes that look like slippers. From November 1-April 1, solid color black, brown, gray or tan boots; boots must be laced and covered by pants at all times.
5. Socks: Socks must be worn at all times.
6. No Sweatshirts are allowed. All sweatshirts and non-dress code sweaters and jackets must be left in lockers during the school day except to go outside during Activity Period or lunch. A green micro-fleece v-neck pullover sweater, a black or green Austin fleece vest, a black ¼ zip fleece, and Austin sweaters may be purchased from the J.B. Edward Uniform Company and worn over a polo for extra warmth.
7. Jackets: During the cold weather, a fleece jacket or vest purchased from the J.B. Edward Uniform Company with the school logo may be worn. No other jacket is acceptable.
8. Personal Appearance: Facial hair is not permitted for anyone. Anyone who appears in school and is not clean-shaven will be sent to the office of the Assistant Headmaster for Student Life, and his parent or guardian will be called. He will then have either to go home or shave before he is allowed into the classroom. Hair must be neat, clean and no longer than shoulder length at all times; hair must be of a natural color. No Mohawks are allowed. Any jewelry must be appropriate for school. No facial piercing, including tongue piercing, is allowed.
9. Hats and sunglasses must be kept in lockers between 8:15 AM - 2:15PM. No hats or caps are to be worn inside any school building at any time.
10. Neat and ironed solid white dress shirts, black or brown shoes (no boots or sneakers), black or brown belts with appropriate buckles (studded, riveted, or metal belts are not acceptable at any time) and appropriate ties are required for all Masses and special assemblies. Austin blazers may be purchased at JB Edward and worn on Mass days. In case of inclement weather in winter, students may wear boots to school and bring shoes to wear during the school day. Masses this year will take place on September 7, November 1, and May 9. There will be a monthly link on the Austin website with dates requiring the Special Events Dress Code that month. Students will be required to dress up for the May Awards Assembly and may be required to dress up on other occasions as well.
11. Athletic apparel tops may be worn only on designated Spirit Days, with the exception of varsity players on home game days. There will be one Spirit Day per month.
12. The faculty and staff reserve the right to address any area of a student’s appearance that they deem inappropriate, and the student will be sent to the Assistant Headmaster’s office to determine whether further action is necessary.
B. Girls:
1. Shirts: Polo shirts from the J.B. Edward Uniform Company only (black, green, white with the Austin logo).
2. Undershirts: Plain undershirt or camisole must be white.
3. Skirts: Two styles (wrap around kilt; four kick pleat) in black watch plaid. Skirts must be an appropriate and modest length. If a girl receives three dress code violations for wearing her skirt too short, she will lose the privilege of wearing a skirt and will be required to wear khaki pants for the remainder of the year.
4. Pants: Tan Khaki or corduroy only with no designs or embroidery work; no cargo pants, low rise pants, or pants that are torn or have frayed edges are allowed.
5. Shoes: Solid color black or brown dress flats or boat shoes or brown or black dress shoes with no higher than 2-inch block heels (no sneakers). No heels higher than 2-inches. No shoes with no/low backs, open-toed shoes, wedges, flip flops, sandals, moccasins, crocs, or any shoes that look like slippers. Simple flat shoes are more appropriate and safer for school. From November 1-April 1solid color black, brown, gray or tan boots.
6. Socks: Solid white or black knee socks (no patterns), ankle socks, or tights with skirts. No fishnet stockings or tights, leggings, or thigh highs of any kind may be worn. Socks or tights must be worn at all times.
7. No Sweatshirts are allowed. A green micro-fleece v-neck pullover sweater, a black or green Austin fleece vest, a black ¼ zip fleece, and Austin sweaters may be purchased from the J.B. Edward Uniform Company and worn over a polo for extra warmth.

Austin blazers may be purchased at JB Edward and worn on Mass days. In case of inclement weather in winter, students may wear boots to school and bring shoes to wear during the school day. C. Anyone out of dress code will receive a detention. Repeated offenses will result in suspension.
D. Warm Weather Changes: (optional):
1. August 28 – November 1 & April 1 - June 5.
a. Walking Shorts (Boys) / Capri Pants (Girls) Khaki Only.
b. Black, brown, gray, or white sneakers.
E. NOTE: All School clothes, except shoes, are available at the J.B. Edward Uniform Company. The minimum outfit requirements: one dress shirt, one polo shirt, one pair of pants, and one sweater or fleece. Students must also purchase a pair of shorts (boys) or Capri pants (girls) if they choose to wear them during the warm weather.
F. Special dress codes for dress down days, field trips, the semi-formal and the prom are posted on the Austin website.
G. When students are injured and/or on crutches, girls will be expected to wear uniform skirts and boys to wear larger more comfortable khakis whenever possible.
