Career Day
More than 30 alumni, parents and friends met with students in grades eight through 12 on Friday, March 30 for Career Day. This unique opportunity for students to hear about prospective careers has become an annual Austin Prep tradition.
The keynote speaker was Rich Meelia ’67, who served as the first chairman, president and CEO of Covidien, a leading $11 billion global healthcare products company. He is now retired.
Meelia spoke to the entire student body about his experiences at many corporations over his distinguished career. He told the students it is important to balance their careers with family life, and to keep true to the core values they are learning at Austin Prep. Even in times of crisis, there are always opportunities to learn and grow, he said.
Following the keynote address, students attended three career sessions to learn more about opportunites within different industries represented. An impressive variety of fields, ranging from business executives and finance professionals to people involved in the performing arts, hospitality industry, and many others. Alumni, faculty and parents finished their day with a luncheon reception with students from the National Honor Society in St. Augustine Hall.
If you are interested in participating in Career Day in the future, please contact Jim Ashby in the Guidance Office.
Many thanks to the 2012 Career Day presenters for giving of their time for this year's event!
